ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Nature Network

The ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Nature Network is our long-term plan to connect the city’s parks, green spaces, woodlands, and waterways, creating a healthier, more resilient environment for both people and wildlife. It supports biodiversity, improves access to nature, and helps ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ adapt to climate change.

Aims of the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Nature Network

The Nature Network identifies key habitats and green corridors across the city that can be protected, enhanced, or expanded. By linking these spaces together, we can help plants and animals move more freely, making ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ a greener, healthier place to live.

The network is central to how we plan future green space improvements, tree planting, and community projects.

Programmes supporting the Nature Network

Several key programmes are helping to deliver the aims of the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Nature Network.

One Million Tree City

We are committed to planting one million trees across ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ by 2030. This ambitious project will increase tree cover across the city, supporting biodiversity, improving air quality, and providing shade and shelter for communities.

Canopy Communities

The Canopy Communities is a project, led by us together with Granton Community Gardeners, that focuses on increasing tree canopy cover in areas of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ that currently have fewer trees. This ensures that the benefits of green spaces and urban trees are shared fairly across the city.

Our Nature Estate

Our Nature Estate builds on grassland practices from our successful Living Landscape programme, which started in 2015. We are committed to improving our urban green spaces to support biodiversity while also supporting communities to enjoy outdoor areas.

We are introducing new grassland management practices in residential areas to create sustainable and rich habitats for various species and to provide green spaces for everyone to enjoy.
