Nature reserves in ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½

ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ is home to many Local Nature Reserves (LNRs) and protected sites. They protect wildlife, support biodiversity, and give people places to enjoy nature, learn, and volunteer.

Why nature reserves matter

Nature reserves

  • protect habitats and species that are rare or vulnerable
  • provide access to nature for health and wellbeing
  • offer spaces for education, volunteering, and outdoor learning
  • help ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½’s biodiversity and climate resilience.

Pentland Hills Regional Park

The Pentland Hills Regional Park is a living landscape which covers around 10,000 hectares of countryside and has 100 km of paths. It is a protected area with a mix of farmland, heather moorland, reservoirs, woodlands, and hills.

We are one of the managing authorities of the Pentland Hills Regional Park. This is based on an agreement between ourselves, Midlothian Council and West Lothian Council.
