The Right Honourable Lord Lieutenant and Lord Provost of the City of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½, Robert Aldridge, has expressed condolences on behalf of the city.

He said:

“It is with sadness that ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ shares its condolences with everybody in the Catholic Church, at home and around the world, following the death of Pope emeritus Benedict XVI. He was a religious leader who endeared himself to many people in ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ during his historic state visit in 2010 – when over 125,000 well-wishers lined the streets to see him. Many will remember the moment hundreds of children and young people, from schools of all denominations, took part in a spectacular parade down Princes Street before Pope Benedict XVI was met by Her Majesty The Queen. It was a momentous occasion for our Capital and I know that a great number of people who were there that day will now be congregating to express their collective grief. On behalf of the City of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½, my thoughts are with them all.”
