New Blackhall Library

Temporary Library at Davidson’s Mains Primary School

Background

The original library building on Hillhouse Road is currently closed due to the discovery of Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC). The detailed assessment of RAAC in this building concluded that, due to the poor condition of many panels, the level of work needed meant it wasn’t possible to keep running services from the building until a long term solution could be agreed.

This library building was a very popular resource and provided a wide range of library services, community events and activities. We know it’s important that people across Blackhall, Davidson’s Mains and the local area have access to quality local services in places that are convenient and accessible.

Your temporary library facility

Our new temporary library facility at Davidson’s Mains Primary School is now open. The facility sits within the school grounds, but is separated from the school by a fence and has its own dedicated entrance. We've installed signage at the gates to help guide people to the new building.

You can find details on the opening hours, regular events and activities on our Library Directory pages.

The temporary building will provide access to library services while we continue work on a long-term plan for the library and other community services in the area.

During the development of the temporary library we’ve consulted with the Davidson’s Mains Primary School community to ensure the facility supports the needs of the school, its pupils and staff.

We’ve carried out additional works at the school to support the delivery of the library, including new fencing and works to the playground to provide new fire safety spaces. We'll also soon deliver additional road safety works outside the school, including pavement widening.

Long term library facility

You can find out more about our latest plans for the new long term library facility to replace this temporary service on the next page.
